Armory Project

The rich history of the Armory building began in 1932. It was financed by the New Deal along with the city council and community organizations to replace the previous building on the corner of West Alisal and Salinas Streets.

Originally, the California National Guard used it to house a tank company and it would also double as a civic auditorium at that time.  After the tank company was deployed to the Philippines during WWII, the Armory became a Wartime Civilian Control Agency Assembly Center and housed Japanese-Americans and people of Japanese decent living in the area, until they were ultimately sent to internment camps.

Preserving the Past, Building the Future best describes the significance of the overall project. The project will be completed in phases in order to bring the aged building up to code and ready for occupancy.  Salinas PAL prides itself on providing FREE sport, social-educational, and cultural activities to kids, and in doing so, we are "bridging the gap between cops and kids".

The Armory Project has officially begun with our "Ground Breaking" ceremony that took place on September 7th.

We are looking for community involvement for this project.  From donating time and labor, to donations money to our capital campaign, Salinas PAL is asking for your help with the project.
